Actually, Michael Phelps made a lot of weird faces in Rio

So, as you probably noticed, #PhelpsFace is trending everywhere, and for good reason.

But that's far from the only unusual face Michael Phelps made in Rio. And he wasn't alone. But, to be fair, swimming seems to lend itself to weird facial expressions.

Fellow U.S. swimmer Josh Prenot also gets points for the surface tension of the water making him look a bit like an alien in this photo.

And Ding Ning, from China's table tennis team, seems oddly tranquil despite looking like she's about to get hit in the face with a ping-pong ball. (She probably didn't get hit.)

The photo of Michael Phelps' insane scowl during his warmups filled Twitter with memes, despite NBC's harsh restrictions against turning anything from the Olympics into a GIF.

He later told NBC he was thinking about "nothing" as another swimmer warmed up directly in front of him.

Clearly, the internet had one thing on its mind: memes.

The hood drew a lot of Star Wars comparisons.

Some people dove into the archives.

This might be a little bit too real.

Do we really know what's in an e-cigarette?
