Andy Warhol was an acclaimed American artist and one of the pioneers of the visual art movement called 'pop art' (popular art), which he helped create by examining celebrity culture, advertisements and film in the 1960's.
Known now as a trendsetter and auteur, back in his day, he was both renowned but also controversial at times. His most iconic piece of art was 'Campbell's Soup Cans.'
Besides art, he managed and produced 'The Velvet Underground,' a rock band, founded Interview, a magazine, wrote numerous books on art, philosophy and was also a notable gay man who was open about it much before the gay liberation movement started.

Happy Birthday Andy Warhol. I'd like to think he'd be painting Real Housewives if he was alive today
