Charleston church shooter, Dylann Roof, attacked in jail


Dylann Roof, the 22-year-old gunman who murdered nine parishioners at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, was reportedly beaten just outside of his jail cell Thursday morning.

Officials said the attack on Roof was not provoked and he is was not seriously injured, Reuters reported.

The man who allegedly assaulted Roof was identified as Dwayne Marion Stafford.

Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He has also incurred federal hate crime charges, for which he faces the death penalty.

His trial will start on January 17, 2017.
