What's not on the new, healthier McDonald's menu: corn syrup and antibiotics

It might not be the healthiest option, but at least there won't be high-fructose corn syrup in the burger buns.

McDonald's announced on Monday that it was swapping corn syrup in its buns for actual sugar, in attempts to attract health-conscious customers. 

Other health-conscious changes include chicken raised without use of antibiotics and removing artificial preservatives from McNuggets and some breakfast items, Reuters reports.

We know that they don't feel good about high-fructose corn syrup so we're giving them what they're looking for instead.

Also promised: No more chicken skin, safflower oil or citric acid in McNugget meat (instead it's pea starch, rice starch and powdered lemon juice).

Why the antibiotic change? Experts say overuse of the drugs on chickens could lead to the drugs being less effective in fighting human infections.

It's not the company's first attempt to add some transparency to its menu. Last year, the chain launched a campaign to address questions about how the food products were made, including a feature with Grant Imahara from "Mythbusters."
