On the eve of Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling's birthday, muggles, wizards and witches swarmed bookstores in New York City and the rest of the country to celebrate the release of the official eighth installment of the series.
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 & 2" is a "script book" based on a new play and original story by J.K. Rowling. The play premiered in London on July 30, continuing the story 19 years after where the seventh book left off.
At Books of Wonder, a children's bookstore in New York City, hundreds of fans crowded into the store, many with Hogwarts robes, a lightning bolt scar on their forehead and some with Griffindor scarves.
"Just holding the book in my hand makes me so happy and proud," said Zoubida Bicane of Astoria, Queens, who was the first person to receive a copy of the book at the store. "Harry Potter was such an important part of my childhood."
