Obama gives Hillary the thumbs up, says he is 'optimistic' about America's future


On the third night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden took the stage. 

Delegates nominated presumptive vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine, D-Va.

Obama said in his optimistic speech, there's "never been a man or a woman not me, not Bill, nobody, who is more qualified to be president than Hillary Clinton."

Biden took a sharp barb at Trump saying, "He has no clue about what makes America great. Actually he has no clue. Period."

[UPDATE] 10:53 p.m.

President Barack Obama is now speaking at the Democratic National Convention. 

Obama: "I stand before you again tonight after almost two terms as your president to tell you I am more optimistic about the future of America than ever before." 

Obama: "The America I know is decent and generous."

Obama: "We are challenged to do better and be better."

Obama: "I see Americans of every party, background, faith who believe that we are stronger together."

Tim Kaine (V-DA) is speaking now at the Democratic National Convention.

[UPDATE] 9:34 p.m.

Former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg speaks at the DNC and endorses Hillary Clinton.

Bloomberg: "I started my own business and I didn't do it with a million dollar check from my father." 

Bloomberg: "We didn't always agree, but Hillary Clinton always listened."

Bloomberg: "We are only as good as our word, but not Donald Trump."

Bloomberg: "Trump wants to run the nation like he runs his business? God help us. I'm a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one."

Bloomberg: "There is no doubt in my mind that Hillary Clinton is the right choice in November."

VP Joe Biden endorses Hillary Clinton for president.

[UPDATE] 9:09 p.m.

Vice President Joe Biden now speaking at the Democratic National Convention.

Biden: "Our son Beau introduced me to the country and placed my name in nomination. You got a glimpse at what an incredibly fine young man Beau was."

Biden: "Everybody' knows she's smart. Everybody knows she's tough. I know Hillary."

Biden: "There's only one person in this race who will be there, whose always been there for you and that's Hillary Clinton's life story. It's not just who she is. It's her life story."

Biden: "We cannot elect a men who exploits our fears of ISIS and other terrors," on Trump.

[UPDATE] 9:00 p.m.

Jill Biden introduces vice president Joe Biden.

Jill Biden, Second First Lady: "He remains today even after all he's been through the most optimistic person I know. He loves his family. He loves this country. He's your vice president and my husband, Joe Biden."

[UPDATE] 8:37 p.m.

John Hutson, Retired navy admiral: "Donald, you're not fit to polish John McCain's boots," in response to Donald Trump's remarks about John McCain.

[UPDATE] 4:40 p.m.

Delegates nominate Virginia senator Tim Kaine for the vice presidency.
