A plane just went around the world powered only by the sun

Solar Impulse 2 just became the first plane to fly around the globe using only the energy captured by solar panels on its wings, landing in Abu Dhabi early Tuesday.

You can watch the landing in the clip above.

The plane took off in March 2015, but ran into some technical problems. It broke the record for the longest non-stop solo flight by a solar-powered plane in July 2015, making the long trek from Hawaii to Japan.

But that flight damaged the plane's batteries and grounded the plane until April.

Work began on Solar Impulse 2 about 14 years ago as a way to raise awareness about climate change, Swiss pilots Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg said.

The trip made for some great views.

Would you ride in a solar-powered plane?
