A man who blew himself up outside a German music festival may have ties to ISIS. (CNN Video)
The bombing took place outside a music festival in Ansbach Sunday night. The bomber, who has not yet been publicly identified, killed himself and injured 12.
The bomber was reportedly from Syria and had applied for asylum, but was rejected and set to be deported. Officials have not yet confirmed whether this was an act of terrorism.
He brought a bomb packed with nails and screws. Officials said he had attempted suicide twice.
About 5,000 members of the U.S. military live in Ansbach, CNN reports.
Recent violence in the German state of Bavaria has fueled #Merkelsommer, or "Merkel summer."
