Verizon confirms it's buying Yahoo for $4.8 billion


One of the biggest websites in the world could soon be property of Verizon.

Yahoo will be bought by the internet and phone giant for $4.83 billion, Reuters reports.

AT&T and a group lead by the co-founder of Quicken Loans were also in the running for the embattled site, USA Today reports.

Yahoo owns Tumblr and photo-sharing service Flickr. It also owns the video advertising company BrightRoll.

Yahoo was once dominant in the early days of the internet, and it still brings in about a billion monthly users, Fortune reports. But its financial struggles have been well-documented.
