This Florida football player helped stop a rape

I turned around and pulled the guy by the shoulder and said 'Get off.'

Florida linebacker Cristian Garcia thought he saw a couple having sex outside when he took out the trash Friday morning.

Then he saw the woman was unconscious, and the man's friends were watching it all unfold.

Then, The Gainesville Sun reports, Garcia and his friend Leroyea Simmons decided to act.

Garcia said the man, later identified by police as Christopher Shaw, said the woman was his girlfriend. Garcia didn't buy it.

"I told him, 'You have to chill with this,'" Garcia said. He then reportedly pushed Shaw and took the victim to safety.

"He was intoxicated and attempted to throw some punches, but he slipped and busted his face on the wall," Garcia said.

Gainesville police said they have "reason to believe" Shaw, 34,  has raped multiple people.

Simmons said she and Garcia recorded the incident on their phones.

Garcia was praised on social media for his actions.

If that was my sister, I would hope that somebody would do the same thing. So I just reacted that way.

Garcia's actions stood in stark contrast to other student-athletes accused of sexual assault, like former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner and Vanderbilt football players Brandon Vandenburg and Corey Batey.
