Gypsy Sport's spring line may have premiered at a July 12 event for New York Fashion Week: Men's, but designer Rio Uribe insists he didn't let that gender label limit the vision of his collections.
"We still have four collections, like everyone else," Uribe told Circa. "But they're not [men's] or women's collections."
While anime also served to inspire, the palate flush with primary colors was impossible to miss.
Converting jerseys into skirts and dresses, Uribe showcased his work on androgynous models.
"When I see boys in skirts, or girls in men's clothes, I always think the kids are what's going to change fashion," Uribe added.
Next-gen style influencers may include actor Jaden Smith, who wore a Gypsy Sport jacket to a 2015 fashion-week event. The son of Will Smith and actress Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jaden joined sister Willow in providing the soundtrack to a fashion film Uribe released in April.
Seeing Jaden wear Gypsy Sport makes Uribe "feel like I'm doing the right thing, and he's doing the right thing."
