Clinton, Kaine speak as running mates for first time

Virginia senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) took the stage with Hillary Clinton Saturday at a rally in Miami for the first time as running mates.

Clinton and Kaine made their first joint appearance at a campaign rally at Florida International University.

Democratic candidates Clinton and Kaine will face off against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, in November.

"Sen. Tim Kaine is everything Donald Trump and Mike Pence are not," Clinton said, with Kaine beside her. "He is qualified to step into this job and lead on Day 1. And he is a progressive who likes to get things done."

Clinton, 68, sent a text and took to Twitter Friday to announce Kaine, 58, as her pick for VP.

The Democratic Convention kicks off next week in Philadelphia.
