Snowden: Any Cell Phone Can Be Hacked | NBC News

Edward Snowden, the infamous NSA whistleblower wants to create a new technological device. What else could it be, but an iPhone case that will allow you to know whether the NSA is keeping tabs on you. No surprises here, only a chance for you to hold onto a little more privacy and perhaps for Snowden, a little profit.

Snowden co-authored a research paper  with fellow hacker Andrew 'bunnie' Huang on phone "hardware introspection" at MIT, which he hopes will form the foundation for an iPhone case which will allow a user to see whether their phone is sending out secret signals to an intelligence agency, like the NSA.

"This work aims to give journalists the tools to know when their smart phones are tracking or disclosing their location when the devices are supposed to be in airplane mode," Huang and Snowden wrote in their research paper.

Tech Insider contributed to this report.
