There are approximately 100 billion neurons in the human brain -- if lined up side-by-side, they would stretch to about 600 miles in length. Needless to say, the brain is an incredibly complex organ about which much is still unknown.
This week saw a milestone in neuroscience -- researchers published an amazing new map of the brain, outlining almost 100 new regions. Scientists says it gives a completely renewed sense of how the human mind looks and functions.
Researchers hope to use this new map to better understand how the brain develops during childhood, and how diseases like Alzheimer's and schizophrenia start -- and just maybe, how to fix or prevent those and many other illnesses.
