A 20-year-old man was charged with capital murder Thursday, in the shooting death of a Kansas City police officer, Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman told Fox News.
Capt. Robert Melton, 46, was killed while investigating a drive-by shooting.
The suspect in Melton's murder, Jamaal Lewis, is also facing charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a weapon in connection with another incident.
Daqon Sipple, 18, was also charged with aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer and criminal discharge of a weapon.
At this time, authorities are not seeking any more suspects in the case, according to Fox News.
Authorities said Melton was searching for a suspect in a drive-by when he drove up to someone who matched the suspect's description and was shot through the passenger-side window.
