Russ Read is a multimedia journalist covering politics, with a special emphasis on defense and cybersecurity. He started his career in professional journalism by getting lost in the myriad of corridors at the Pentagon and the halls of Capitol Hill while covering national security and foreign policy issues.
Russ has held a variety of jobs throughout this career, ranging from lifeguard to private investigator. Eventually, he realized journalism was the ideal fit for his natural curiosity. He has been involved in media since his days as a staff writer in high school, back when the news was printed in ink on broadsheets. He continued to stay involved in media through college, where he wrote for the High Point University Campus Chronicle and hosted a radio show.
Russ was born in Montreal, Canada and was raised in North Carolina, spending many of his summers in Ireland and traveling the rest of Europe.
Russ holds a degree in Criminal Justice from High Point University and a Master’s in International Affairs from Boston University. Always looking to delve into a new story, he has written on everything from military interpreters to defense tech. His work has been published and syndicated in numerous outlets. He has also been a featured guest on several television and radio shows.
