Asa Merritt studied journalism at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism then immediately hit the road looking for stories. After travelling around the world producing sports features for NPR and VICE, Asa joined the Circa team, where he now works as a Regional Producer in Austin, Texas.
Asa learned the fundamentals of storytelling as a playwright in New York City, and continues to think about dramatic structure critically. He credits dual childhoods (one in the burbs with Mom, one on a farm, with Dad) for teaching him how to listen to all kinds of people. Asa and his brother once got caught in a tornado while riding bicycles across North Dakota. They holed up from the storm in a town called Hope. The local diner’s pancakes were excellent.
